We are seeking to recruit a post-doctoral scientist with an interest in signal transduction in the immune system to investigate the role of Shc proteins in B cell homeostasis and their implication in B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The position will be funded up to 3 years and is available beginning from April at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, University of Siena, in the lab of Prof. Cosima T Baldari. The prospective applicant should have a consolidated expertise in immunology and molecular biology. Animal expertise will be considered as a plus. The position requires the ability to work independently and multi-task. Excellent communication skills are mandatory.

Il progetto di ricerca verte sull'identificazione di proteine esposte sulla superficie cellulare di batteri del genere Burkholderia e di altri patogeni opportunisti, e sullo studio dei meccanismi di regolazione genica che presiedono alla loro espressione.

Si richiede esperienza in metodologie di base di microbiologia, biochimica e biologia molecolare. Un dottorato svolto su argomenti di Microbiologia molecolare o su interazione ospite-patogeno costituiranno titolo preferenziale.

La posizione ha una durata di 18 mesi ed è disponibile da marzo-aprile 2012.

Successful candidates should be capable of working in a team environment. They should have demonstrated creativity, technical independence, and good communication skills. The IIT/Sapienza Life -Nanoscience outstation is affiliated with the University “La Sapienza” in Rome. It is a research center established in Rome, dedicated to activities of biomedical interest where technological innovation is key to reach the goals. In particular, the scientific activity of the center IIT/Sapienza Life –Nanoscience focuses on the study of the molecular, cellular and tissutal processes underlying nervous system dysfunction, as well as brain tumours.
The research center IIT/Sapienza Life -Nanoscience is offering a position as Senior Technician Officer/Lab Manager in the IIT laboratories that will be established in Rome at the University "La Sapienza".

Commencing date: September/October 2011

Grade: laurea or lower degree depending on experience and qualifications

Job description:

Lab Management:
- General laboratory management, including equipment ordering, administration of reagent and other consumables databases, instrument maintenance and scheduling, space organization and upkeep (e.g. microscopes, cell culture facilities, equipment rooms, etc.).
- Interface with IIT’s headquarter service departments (building maintenance, scientific instrument maintenance, workshops, core facilities) for the needs of the research groups.
- Regular meetings and communication with the technical staff of the different research units to coordinate all technical issues concerning the laboratory.
- Interface with the administrative secretary for administrative aspects of laboratory organization.
- Enforce laboratory safety guidelines.
- Schedule lab or equipment use time for staff.
- Support in scientific reporting and meeting organization.

Qualifications and Experience
This position is for a senior technical officer who will support the Director of the laboratory in management, organization and integration of the activities of the different research groups. The position requires excellent and broad technical, organizational, interpersonal and management skills. The position carries significant responsibility and requires exceptional reliability. The chosen candidate will provide high-level support for the Director of the laboratory. Extensive experience and competence in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and microscopy are necessary. Computer literacy required. Fluency in English is essential.
Salary will depend on qualifications and experience. This post will offer possible future career options and advancement on successful completion.
